About Mimi

I am Mimi Bell, married to AJ Bell and we have a young daughter. I was brought up on the Isle of Wight, UK from where I left at the age of 18 to spend a year in Italy as an au-pair. This sparked my love for languages and travel and I continued on to do a degree in Spanish and Italian for four years at Anglia Polytechnic University, Cambridge, UK. My degree included a year spent divided between Verona, Italy and Salamanca, Spain where I studied at the respective universities. At the end of my third year I met AJ at the summer ball. Who would have thought we would marry nine years later? It must have been my amazing kareoke skills… or was it his sarong?! After graduating from APU I went on to win a grant to study a masters at la universidad autónoma de Madrid, where I studied translation. During  my summer breaks I spent my time in either Italy or Spain, working as an au-pair and as a swimming teacher. In the summer of 2001 I taught English as a foreign language at a language school on the Isle of Wight, followed by a short spell as a kindergarten teacher in Honduras.

When my studies finished in 2002 I worked as a carer and a translator before leaving for India to study a course in development. When I returned I worked for a not-for-profit company involved in childcare and working with children’s charities. After almost 2 years at that company AJ and I left for Asia to travel around India, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. We had a fantastic time!

On our return we moved to St. Albans, Hetfordshire, UK as AJ got a new job there. I trained to be a secondary school language teacher at the Institute of Education and carried out my placements in London. On completion of the course I got a job at a school in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, UK.

AJ and I were married in 2009 on the Isle of Wight, followed by a honeymoon island hoping in Croatia.

Our daughter, Munchie (not her real name!) was born in December 2010.

In early 2012 AJ was offered a new job with the prospect of moving to the USA, either the west or east coast. After a fairly long negotiation period, we settled on New York City and moved there in January 2013. A fab year in NYC ensued and then we decided to hit the New York suburbs.
